‎A renowned expert in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, Victory Ivongbe, Thursday, cautioned Nigerians against over-reliance on artificial intelligence systems, warning that excessive dependence on automation could undermine human creativity, strategic thinking and innovation.

‎Ivongbe noted that although AI and robotics are rapidly transforming sectors such as business, media, healthcare and manufacturing, human intelligence remains essential in many areas of decision-making and innovation.

‎The tech expert, who is the Chief Operations Officer of Jambless Consulting Nigeria Limited, made the remarks during a chat with journalists in Benin City, Edo state.
‎He stated that many organisations now deploy AI systems to reduce operational costs and improve efficiency in the management of time and resources.

‎“While AI can analyse large datasets quickly and deliver structured outputs with consistency, its intelligence remains dependent on available data.

‎“AI thinks through data; humans think beyond it. It does not originate thought independently or imagine possibilities outside the dataset it has been trained on,” he said.

Ivongbe, a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), further stated that although AI systems can analyse market trends, they cannot anticipate cultural shifts before they are reflected in data.

‎He said high-level critical reasoning, strategic foresight and disruptive innovation still require human cognition.

‎“Most successful organisations in the future will be those that effectively integrate both human intelligence and AI systems,” he added.
